Exterior Mods
Haven't really done alot of exterior mods. I have installed a 57" Olympic rock bumper w/ a 2" receiver hitch built into it. I picked it up from Quadratech. Install was a snap.
I also removed the front bumper ends. I dunno why, I guess because everyone else does =]
The receiver on the bumper seems rather week. I pull a 13' trailer fairly often and this is what it looks like "loaded" down
Next up, a Sahara spare tire cover. Since I couldn't seem to get one from the dealer, I found one on www.jeepsareus.com . Thx JU for pointing me in the right direction!
I figured I needed some extra room for my junk, and didn't always wanted to pull the trailer. The Masterbuilt Hitch-Haul receiver rack seemed like a perfect purchase! I have had nothing but trouble with the Olympic rear bumpers receiver. It seems to be smaller then standard, so basically, anything I buy to put into 2" receiver WON'T FIT!!!!!
After some grinding, a hitch extender and lots of swearing.. I finally made this work. I am still not too happy with the Olympic receiver part of the bumper, but it works now! I don't particularly care for the way the receiver is flimsy. I know it only has a tongue rating of ~ 250lbs, but still.... Eh, either way, it is a great addition. I can put our suitcase, hunting bag and 2 gun cases on it, leaving the inside free!
June 05. Well, that Olympic bumper has pissed me off for the last time. I bought a Hidden Hitch Receiver. MUCH better then that bumper hitch. I will NEVER recommend an Olympic bumper hitch to anyone that really tows.
Oh yeah, I added a Warn M8000 back in August. Never used it, except to stretch the cable. Haven't needed it... but I'd rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it! Not a bad price either. I think it was 550 shipped and then I got the mounting plate from Harbor Freight (TJ Specific.. fits perfect!). I have more pics somewhere.. I'll have to find them.
