Pioneer XM Radio FM Modulated unit GEX-FM903XM
This is a perfect XM unit for the TJ. You can keep your factory unit and hide all of the Pioneer parts, as to prevent theft. I lucked up and found the unit on sale at Circuit City for $99! I paid $200 for the same unit in November for the wife's Stang! I went with the Terk XM3 low profile antenna.
I decided to mount the brain in the trunk. I figured once I put on the hard top and took out the add-a-trunk, I could place the brain under the back seat.
Wiring was simple, I ran everything under the carpet. I ran the antenna wires thru the padding of the sport bar. S I M P L E
The antenna is so low profile, I just placed it on top of my sound bar. I have it held in place via tie-wrap. It really isn't necessary since the antenna has a magnet in it. During the winter time, I will place the XM3 on the dash, since the hardtop won't clear the antenna on the soundbar. The softtop does NOT affect the reception at all!
At first, I simply had the display laying in the cup holder, but eventually found a great place for it. I simply velcroed it to the top of the window frame. Now, it is up where I can see it, easily hidden, and I can easily take it down to hide or keep from getting wet
Wiring was a breeze also. There is a splice in the radio antenna right behind the glove box. The FM modulator thingy plugged right inline, then I hide the box somewhere behind some wires. I plugged the switched + wire into the fuse for the radio, ran the non switched + wire to a wire I had already run for a spare cigarette lighter, and ground the unit on a frame bolt.
That was it... took me about 2 hours from start to finish. XM radio is great, I couldn't imagine NOT having it now!
